Everything is possible with one in all app
EasyGo is an APP that allows the user for planning trips before and during the trip in the most complete and free way as possible. The app incorporate functions such as: join a group trip, get help to find the ideal destination, create custom routes, audio guides with the most interesting information about each place, information of the areas of high possibility of being in dangerous and so much more.
In the last few decades, the number of people traveling worldwide has surged by more than 78%. Consequently, the demand for freely planning trips has reached unprecedented levels. While there are various methods such as agencies, guides, and apps to plan a trip, they may not cater to all needs. Additionally, not everyone has the time or budget to navigate these options.
Enter the 'trotamundos' or globetrotter, a type of traveler where 65% are female solo travelers, often venturing out alone. For this type of traveler, assessing the security of different areas in a city can be challenging, relying solely on internet searches or seeking advice from locals. Additionally, the rigid schedules of available tours may not align with the preferences and time constraints of those seeking independent exploration.
Our goal was to provide users with comprehensive accessibility to all the necessities a traveler requires, ensuring adaptability and freedom. Recognizing the need for flexibility and personalization, our solution goes beyond traditional travel planning. We identified crucial information for trip preparation, aiming to save time and money.
Our High Goals:
1.User-Friendly Experience: Create a fast and easy-to-use application accessible to everyone, everywhere.
2.Comprehensive Accessibility: Have everything at hand in one place.
3.Flexible Trip Planning: Plan your trip solo or with friends.
4.Customizable Trips: Tailor your journey with freedom.
5.Safety and Enjoyment: Ensure safety and maximize enjoyment at every minute of the trip.
This innovative approach empowers individuals to experience the best of both worlds, allowing for independent exploration while enjoying the benefits of a curated group experience.
If you are unsure about your destination, the app guides you through a questionnaire to help choose the best option based on your:
-Budget
-Hobbies
-Available time
-Dates
-Weather
-Distance
-Preferences
Join one of the traveler teams heading to the same destination as you, or select the same destination, join the group, and wait to be accepted.
We conducted an investigation to understand the needs and preferences of various types of travelers during their trips. Additionally, we delved into the travel trends in Spain, identifying peak age groups for travel and the motivations behind these journeys. Our research involved interviews with diverse volunteers, yielding the following insights:
We interviewed 4 people that were potential future users of are app.
So we prepare the script, open enough for the participant talk freely about all their own experiences while they are traveling.
According to data from the INE (National Institute of Statistics) in Spain, there has been a significant surge in travel over the past few years, particularly since 2021. The age group between 25 to 34 years old has emerged as the most frequent travelers in the last two years, closely followed by those aged 35 to 44.
On average, individuals in Spain allocate a budget of €625 per person for their trips. Globally, China, the United States, and Germany lead in traveler numbers, with a substantial budget averaging $3,580 per person.
While there are various traveler profiles, many individuals prefer structured programs due to time and budget constraints. Our research and interviews underscored the importance people place on efficiently exploring a destination's places, gastronomy, and culture. Travelers often opt for time-saving options such as free tours, travel guides, or travel apps.
Despite the increasing popularity of solo trips, which see a 20% annual growth even year, there remains a significant segment of the population that prefers group travel or exploring with a partner. Our investigation also revealed existing gaps in available travel apps that they don’t cover completely to the demand of the users.
Based on the comprehensive research findings and interviews, we meticulously crafted two distinct personas, each reflecting unique personalities, situations, and diverse travel preferences. By considering a wide spectrum of traveler types and varying budget constraints, we aimed to create personas that accurately represent the diverse user base of our app.
These personas serve as invaluable tools in testing and refining our app's functionality, ensuring it meets the needs and expectations of a broad range of users.
We crafted a narrative scenario to explore how various user personas interact with EasyGo in simulated travel situations. By examining the app's usability across different user preferences and behaviors, we gained valuable insights into its adaptability and effectiveness in enhancing travel experiences. This exercise allowed us to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure that EasyGo caters to the diverse needs of travelers.
Our main strategy was:
-How can be used for people how wants to walk freely without a plan.
-Organized people who like to plan everything.
I proposed two user flows, that goes in a different way, but both of the ways are going to end in the same menu with the information of the place that you are travelling.
1. You have clear the destination, the next question is alone or join a travel group
2. You don’t know where to go, goes an questionnaire, to know the preferences of the user.
Entering the design phase, I kept in mind everything I had collected so far - personas, their pain points, and the new flows. I started visualizing stuff by roughly sketching out concepts.
Me and my colleagues discussed the design process: how it works, why it's important, what factors to consider, and more.
Based on the sketches, we transitioned to Figma, creating various wireframes with a grid to align and organize the elements in the design, confirming that everything fits perfectly. Here are some wireframes.
We followed the designs from the sketches and the taskflow that we had already created, aiming to stay true to the original concept of integrating multiple apps into one. We focused on being organized and used colors that represent EasyGo, while also incorporating some innovative ideas into the design. The flows that we created were optimized for use on an iPhone 11-12. Here are some things to stand out of the flows within EasyGo:
Save all the important files in EasyGo to have them at hand when you need them.
-Save your photos
-Write your notes
-Store files, flights, and accommodation information...
Always have access to the principal must-knows about the city/country.
-Explore the city with our map.
-Find the best way to move using public transport.
-Identify areas that may be less safe.
-Easily locate places.
-Listen to audio guides or read information.
-If something is not available, leave a review to inform other travelers!
And Much more to explore!
-Add automatically the expenses you have during the trip.
-Shared a expenses.
-Currency exchange used the convertor.
-Send money and more!
We made improvements to determine if our app was intuitive enough for users, allowing them to quickly find the functions and features they need. We asked users to perform various tasks in the app, such as adding friends, changing dates, and sharing a payment. We conducted tests with several individuals of varying levels of technological proficiency and age. Here are some examples of the users test that we made.
Age: 55
Technology Know-ledge: Low
Finish the test: NO
In the initial screen, the preset suggestions were confusing for users as they attempted to create a trip with the available options. Initially, the user did not pay much attention to the main menu as they didn't understand the purpose of each icon. They also missed recognizing the link to add friends on the registration screen, leading to confusion during the initial flow.
Age: 28
Technology Know-ledge: High
Finish the test: YES
The user appears confused on the initial screen of suggestions. The main menu is overlooked, struggling to recognize the purpose of the icons. It wasn't clear on the questionnaire screen whether one or multiple options could be selected. The option to view friends' expenses couldn't be found. The currency exchange wasn't completed due to confusion about clicking on the currency to change it.
After recognizing that our initial prototype did not meet user needs and expectations, we undertook a redesign process to improve usability and clarity. Through user testing sessions, we collected valuable feedback and pinpointed areas requiring enhancement. Utilizing insights from these sessions, we refined the prototype to ensure a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. We made necessary adjustments based on feedback from test users and re-evaluated the prototype with new participants to ensure the changes implemented were indeed intuitive and facilitated task completion. Here are the changes:
Redesign the home screen and add a "New Trip" button to make it more direct and intuitive. Reduce the prominence of pre-set suggestions.
Add an additional step (screen) where you specifically select friends, without it being mandatory to fill out.
-In the trip summary, add two buttons at the top and bottom of the scroll to navigate to the next page.
-Label the menu icons to indicate the function of each icon.
Add an additional step (screen) where you specifically select friends, without it being mandatory to fill out.
In the expenses section, add a specific button to change the currency for the user's expenses and totals, making it more visible.
In the trip summary, add two buttons at the top and bottom of the scroll to navigate to the next page.
Additionally, we incorporated different emoticons to give more personality to EasyGo. As you can see, the interface follows a pattern, forming a pathway for the eyes to lead directly to relevant information. The design elements aim to create a seamless and enjoyable user experience, ensuring that navigating the app feels intuitive and engaging.
When we were deciding the visual design of EasyGo, we wanted something fun with joyful colors and typography that is not only friendly but also fun. We created the mood board above where a sense of simplicity and normcore dominates the visuals. We chose the pictures to reference the cities very carefully because, as we say, "One image is better than a thousand words," and vibrant, lively photos reflect the soul of our app.
My team and I gave our best in this design project and we learn a lot about user experience
The significance of adhering to each step to achieve success cannot be overstated. I found every phase of the process to be fundamental in gathering valuable insights for the project. From conducting research and interviews to developing personas, journey maps, and visual designs, each step contributed significantly to shaping the outcome. Engaging in every aspect of the project enabled me to better understand the diverse needs and preferences of users, ultimately enhancing the user experience of the app.
I am glad that We kept the process user-centered. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to approach the problem with neutrality. By accepting the challenge and considering the experiences of others, we were able to gain valuable insights and ensure that our app truly meets the needs of our users.
Even if I really really love and I would fight to defend our app and I was thinking that it was perfectly made it at the beginning but while we were doing the users test I realized that it wasn’t that perfect and we had to make some changes and accept that it’s okay and we can improve and grow with the changes.
Working as a team has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. We all share a passion for both travel and design, which made the collaborative process both enjoyable and fulfilling. Despite occasional disagreements, we were able to find a harmonious balance and reach agreements that ultimately led to the creation of something truly amazing from scratch.
